DESIGN + VERSATILITY | Large Capacity Grill

As far as large capacity charcoal grills go, the Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill is a top contender. This busty beauty is made of cast iron and stainless steel. The body of the Dyna-Go Premium is made of a combination of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It has a top lid to access your grilling area, but also a front steel and iron door to access charcoal and tend to the flames. Also included that is rare to find with other charcoal grills is the adjustable charcoal basket tray system that can bring coals closer to your feast or drop them away for optimal heat and searing control. And did we say that the Dyna-Go just looks heavy-duty? It has a rustic, old-world feel to it that’ll make your cuts taste even better just by looking at it.

The body of the Dyna-Go Premium is made of a combination of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron.

The body of the Dyna-Glo Premium sits on heavy duty 8-inch resin wheels with 3-inch locking casters to provide excellent maneuverability. Because this bad boy is made primarily of heavy steel and cast iron, the durable wheels and lockable casters are a great feature to be able to move your grill between your yard and storage. However, the Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill is not your typical single-family sized grill so it will need a little extra storage space due to its size. A huge feature of this grill’s design is its ability to feed up to 30 people at a time…perfect for backyard parties and get-togethers. One complaint we saw about this grill a lot is that it isn’t as solidly built as other grills on the market. It has a tendency to get rickety over time and is more likely to rust.

SAFETY + DURABILITY | Middle of the Road

As far as safety goes, the Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill doesn’t have any special safety features. This is a large-capacity charcoal grill that is made to feed the crowds, and that’s its biggest feature. It’s always important to be aware of flare-ups and other charcoal grilling hazards, as there’s always the risk of burning your eyebrows off.

The exterior is made of powder-coated steel…

Durability for the Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill is better than some but not as good as others. It falls down the middle of the road for most charcoal grills. The exterior is made of powder-coated steel that is able to stand up to the elements, and the rest of the grill (like the front door, smokestack, and storage underneath) are all made with various (durable) metal types like stainless steel, cast iron, and regular steel. Although those are all durable in themselves, all the different seams, doors, and welds on this grill increase the likelihood of rust, so it’s best to keep this grill covered if you store it outside.

PERFORMANCE | Made to Feed the Crowds

Ease-of-Use

There are both some great and not-so-great features that fall under the “Ease of Use” category for the Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill. Let’s start with the good. Some of the top features that make the Dyna-Glo Premium easy to use are its large capacity for feeding large groups and its porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grates. The size of the Dyna-Glo Premium is hard to find when searching for a charcoal grill, as many charcoal grills are made for single-family cooking. Not this puppy. The Dyna-Glo Premium has up to 815 square inches of cooking space, almost double than any other charcoal grills we’ve reviewed. This capacity is able to feed up to 30 people at once, something not many grills can boast about.

The porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grates are also perfect for searing.

The porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grates are also perfect for searing. Cast iron is known for its ability to hold heat at a constant temperature and is the ideal grilling grate. Yet, most cast iron can be difficult to cook with as it needs to be seasoned and requires frequent maintenance. However, because the Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill has porcelain-enameled cast iron grates, this means less maintenance and more time cooking. The cast iron is coated with a non-stick porcelain that won’t require maintenance that other grills with just plain cast iron would.

Other thoughtful features that make your grilling experience easier are the easy to remove ash pain, adjustable charcoal basket for temperature control, and built-in stainless steel thermometer for better temp control, although we always recommend a separate grill thermometer for more precise temperature control. One downside of this grill is the difficulty in controlling the interior temperature. The Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill isn’t as air-tight as the Char-Griller Kamado or the Weber Kettles so heat will fluctuate while using the Dyna-Glo Premium, even with the added features.

Best Features

There are a few great features that make the Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill a great option for versatile grilling. It is one of the top charcoal grills you can find for feeding large crowds. This grill can feed up to 30 people at once due to its large grilling capacity of 815 square inches of grilling space. You’re also able to control the charcoal much better with this grill than other charcoal grills. Either move the grates side-to-side for top access to charcoal or open the easy access front steel door to stoke the coals or add briquettes during cooking. The charcoal tray is also adjustable with an adjustment crank so you can move your coals up and down for better heat control.

Charcoal Adjustment Crank

It is one of the top charcoal grills you can find for feeding large crowds.

A stainless steel smoke stack features an adjustable flue for that nice “smoke” flavor and better temperature control. Sliding side dampers help maximize airflow and can help increase burn efficiency and temperature control. A built-in stainless steel thermometer helps with more accurate temperatures (although we suggest a separate grilling thermometer). Heavy-duty 8-inch resin wheels with 3-inch locking casters provide excellent maneuverability to cart around this beast. There are also side shelves to set plates and spices on, an under storage basket, and a handy bottle opener just in case.

Now, let’s talk about the second best feature of this grill – the porcelain coated cast iron grates. Cast iron is best for holding and maintaining heat levels and is one of the best options for grates that you can find. It doesn’t easily rust, but sometimes can be difficult to cook on because food easily sticks to it. Not with the Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill. The porcelain coat provides a non-stick surface for your grilling and lower maintenance than bare cast iron grates. Oh, and there’s enough space to serve up to 30 people. No big deal. Seriously, the Dyna-Glo Premium is one of the best high-capacity charcoal grills you can find on the market for its price.

One downside to this grill is its lack of efficiency in holding in heat. There are more cracks and crevices (unlike the airtight designs of the Weber Kettle and Char-Griller Kamado) which allow for heat leaks. This makes it harder to hold a consistent heat over a long period of time. Although it can definitely be used as a smoker, the Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill probably isn’t the best option due to its lack of ability to hold heat as well.

PRICE + LONGEVITY | Won’t Last Forever

Longevity

The Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill is a solidly built charcoal grill made of powder-coated steel, cast iron, and stainless steel. However, due to its many welds and crevices, and different metal types, there is a higher probability that it could rust if left out in the elements. This means its best to cover the Dyna-Glo Premium if you want it to last. Also, many users stated that this grill has a tendency to become rickety over time, and is made of thinner metal than others on the market. The grill grates, however, are much less likely to rust or wear thanks to the cast iron design. This grill probably won’t last decades like the Weber Kettle but it is sure to last you a long time and will help you serve the crowds for many years.

Price

Price for the Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill is a little higher than other charcoal grills on the market but its ability to serve a lot of people is the price you’re paying for. Because it can serve up to 30 people (and is constructed with high-quality steel and iron) this heavy-duty charcoal grill falls on the pricier side. Dyna-Glo offers three different sizes of this model of charcoal grills, and the Premium is the largest.

Because it can serve up to 30 people…this heavy-duty charcoal grill falls on the pricier side.

Dyna-Go is sold by GHP Group, a large company that has fair customer service available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Dyna-Glo Premium only comes with a 1-Year limited warranty but the user manual is easy to access online. Ultimately you are paying for size and some convenient features when you buy the Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill.

THE BOTTOM LINE | Budget Grill for Large Crowds

The Dyna-Glo Premium Charcoal Grill is a large capacity charcoal grill that is perfect for feeding large crowds. With the 815 square inch grilling space, you can serve up to 30 people at a time. It’s built almost entirely out of steel and iron, so you know it’s a durable grill. However, make sure you buy a cover as it has a higher likelihood of rusting over time. Also, remember that this grill doesn’t hold constant heat so it might not be the best option for smoking.

It also has some easy thoughtful features that are sure to make your grilling experience more enjoyable. Porcelain-coated cast iron grill grates make for constant heat, non-stick cooking. A stainless steel smoke stack features an adjustable flue for that nice “smoke” flavor and better temperature control. Sliding side dampers help maximize airflow and can help increase burn efficiency and temperature control. Heavy-duty 8-inch resin wheels with 3-inch locking casters provide excellent maneuverability to cart around this beast.
